The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Let these yoga & ayurveda rituals cleanse you in a gentle way to prepare for an amazing day ahead.
Your body will feel fresh & cleansed, your mind clear & calm.
And no worries if it seems overwhelming: just choose 1 ritual that sounds appealing to you and start doing it every day until it becomes second nature. Then add another.
bliss habit 1 | wake up with gratitude
The very first thought of the day makes a big impact. It will set the right tone for the rest of your day.
So try a few of these thoughts of gratitude to get into the right mindflow.
â‘ “I am most grateful for …(the sun, my cup of tea, my warm home, my partner)”
â‘ “Thank you life for giving me …”
â‘ “I’m grateful that … (name someone) showed me how to love”
â‘ “I love that today I get to …”
bliss habit 2 | cleanse & brush
â‘ Wash your face with warm water if you usually feel cold or cold water if you feel hot all the time.
â‘ Try oil pulling for 5-12 minutes. swish a big teaspoon of coconut oil or sesame oil through your mouth and try to create an ‘explosive’ sound. (I do this while making tea or preparing breakfast)
①Spit out the oil & brush your teeth.
bliss habit 3 | move your bum
Now it’s time to move a bit. I love working out or doing some yoga in the morning to give me energy for the day. I never do something longer than 15 minutes. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes is great!
I know some people don’t like to workout on an empty stomach. I can tell you that your body will get used to it.
If you feel easily light headed, begin with a light yoga practice on an empty stomach and see if you can build up to a longer practice or a workout after a few weeks. Five sun salutations are enough to boost your digestive fire & get things flowing.
Here are some of the things I love in the morning. Choose one of them & enjoy!
â‘ 4 minute HIIT workout: 20 sec mountain climbers, 10 sec rest, 20 sec jump squats, 10 sec rest (repeat 4x)
â‘ 5-10 sun salutations, lunge with twist, warrior III, 10 boat pulses, wide legged forward fold, reclined twist, savasana
â‘10 minutes strength training: I love kettlebell workouts or simple body weight strength training like push-ups, squats and boat pose
bliss habit 4 | tune in to the heartmind
Whatever movement you did in bliss habit 3, end it with 1-5 minutes meditation. It can be as simple as resting your hands on your thighs, closing your eyes and focusing all your attention on your breath.
If you need a little more focus, make it a breath meditation by counting your breath:
inhale exhale, 1
inhale exhale, 2
inhale exhale, 3
up to 10 and then start with 1 again.
bliss habit 5 | shower & massage
This habit was a game changer for me. It draws toxins from the body, stimulates the organs, relaxes the mind, moisturises the skin and creates a layer of protection against external influences like the weather, words from others and toxins.
It takes only 1-2 minutes extra in the shower. This is how to do it:
â‘ hop in the shower & wash your hair / body
â‘ switch of the water and massage your whole body with sesame or sweet almond oil in the direction of your hair and in round circles on the joints and belly. make sure to spend some extra time on your feet if you feel cold or anxious
â‘ your body and tap it dry with a towel.
Now it’s time for your breakfast : ) Drink a glass of warm water with lemon & enjoy a warming, grounding breakfast like oatmeal porridge in Autumn & Winter and a light, uplifting breakfast like fruit salad in Spring & Summer.
