‘How do i prevent a burn out? I barely have time for my own practice.’
I’ve been there.
Teaching multiple classes a day, losing my own regular practice and feeling a little bit like a fraud, as I was teaching without a steady self practice.
You see, your self practice has so many functions: it not only sustains your own energy and nourishes you (preventing burn-out), it also is essential for teaching.
How can I share what I don’t embody?
And likewise, how can we not share what we fully embody. Sharing yoga becomes natural when we have a daily, steady self practice.
Here’s how to keep your practice your main priority:
Practice at the same time each day, preferably in the morning, and have a reasonable, realistic aim: for some of us that’s 10 minutes, for others 1 hour or more. The key is that you practice every day
Make sure your practice balances you: yes you can only teach what you embody AND you also want to make sure your practice is exactly what YOU need! If what you need is 1 minute of OM and a 15 minute Shavasana even though you teach flow classes, do it.
If you can, schedule extra time before class: 5 minutes to center yourself, chant a mantra, practice legs up the wall or whatever it is that helps you share from a grounded place.
End your day with Yoga Nidra or another restful practice instead of answering emails.
Remember that yoga extends beyond asana: if you feel uninspired by your own practice, invite something new! What brings my love for yoga back is combining it with Ayurveda, as it brings me back to the reason I practice.
Is your self practice ready for the next evolutionary step but not sure what that looks like? That’s what I help you with in my Mentorships. Together we discover your deepest Sankalpa, your sacred vow to yoga & life and explore how we can ignite your inner spark again.
