‘how do the doshas influence my teaching?’

Just like there’s not one type of person who can practice yoga, there’s not one type of person who can share the practice with others!

Some teachers offer lots of dynamic movement, others love teaching slow flow classes with meditation at the end. There are yoga teachers who are great at taking students through a deep transformational journey, while others make you remember to live with lightness and ease.

If you know a little bit about Ayurveda, you know that you are exactly the teacher you were supposed to be. Your constitution defines you as a teacher!

Vata

  • their talent: move & create, so your classes will most likely have lots of creative movement, enthusiasm and joy in them

  • pitfall: restlessness, rushing and overthinking when they teach

  • focus of their home practice: steady, strengthening, slow movement with lots of standing poses

Pitta

  • their talent: the fire of transformation, a pitta type teacher will be able to take their students through the deep transformational journey and knows how to motivate students to play their edge

  • pitfall: getting judgemental or too intense in their teaching

  • focus of their home practice: cooling pranayama, moderately paced asana and lots of seated postures

Kapha

  • their talent: nourish & support, your classes will feel like a warm hug and they are great at making people feel seen and supported

  • pitfall: lack of heat or ‘spice’ in their classes

  • focus of their own practice: dynamic, heating and uplifting with more challenging poses

Do you recognise yourself in one or 2 of these teachers? I’d love to hear!
